- There is no Transmission dipstick.
- The Mirrors are powered to fold in - use them to wave at your
friends. Be sure and tell the car wash folks so they won't strip
the gears.
- There are 2 rear cargo doors - one 70% and the other 30%.
- There is a hidden compartment under the rear seat.
- Troopers have an Altimeter. The Multimeter has other functions
but I don't use it much.
- Troopers utilize "Torque on Demand" 4x4 mechanism - Press
a button and you go from 2wd to 4wd - do this under 60mph, please.
- Troopers have much wider driver space than Toyota 4Runner and Ford
Explorer.
- Troopers have a switch - Power and Normal. I always have mine
in Power and at cruising speed the engine RPM is the same in either
setting.
- Troopers have skid plates which protect the underside mechanicals if
you run over something.
- Some new model Troopers have a "steel" wheel spare behind
the hard cover. Odd in that some newer models have the same type
wheel as on the vehicle.

You need to remove the Spare Tire to change the rear
window wiper blade.
-
Troopers 3.5L engine typically gets about 17mpg
highway.
- The Air Conditioning in Troopers is a little weak compared to other
vehicles - solution is to get a Trooper with tinted windows.
- Rear bumpers are weak like all SUV's - so don't back into anything.
- Troopers come with Bridgestone tires - not a problem like the
Firestone tires.
- The tire jack is located ....
- Troopers are built in Japan but the transmission is built in France.
-
Wide variation in amount of oil the Trooper Engine
burns. Older style pre 1991 Troopers typically burned 1-2qt per
3,000 miles. Newer model Troopers are unique in that some don't
burn any oil while others even with low milage burn 1qt/1000miles.
